On Thursday night’s episode of Project Runway, the five remaining designers said goodbye to working in teams and welcomed a chance to work independently on a spring/summer editorial look for Marie Claire. But there was a twist! This season is the team’s edition and as such, every challenge must have a team element. So if the designers didn’t work in teams, how did the team element fit in this week? Keep reading to see what happened.

This week’s challenge was to create a high-end, fashion forward editorial look for Marie Claire Magazine. And the winning design would be worn by “Fast and Furious” actress, Jordana Brewster during a Marie Claire photo shoot.

The designers were told they would be working alone to design and conceptualize their look but since this season is the team’s edition, they each would be working with a sewing assistant.

The next day, the designers met with Tim and Nina Garcia at the Hearst building where Nina explained what she was and wasn’t looking for in this challenge. She wanted an editorial look that was bold in color, shape, silhouette, and print, but she didn’t want to see any gowns or tee shirts and pants. Let’s see if everyone listened.

The designers had 30 minutes to sketch before heading to Mood where they had 30 minutes to shop and a budget of $250.

Back in the workroom, it was time to meet their sewing assistants. And who were they? You guessed it! They were eliminated contestants Amanda, Kate, Richard, Samantha, and Tu. And from the moment they walked in, nobody wanted to work with Richard, especially Patricia.

Stanley won last week’s challenge so he got to choose his assistant. He chose Tu. But everybody else’s fate was left up to the dreaded button bag! Michelle’s name was drawn and she chose Amanda. Then Daniel chose Samantha. That left Layana and Patricia’s names in the bag and they were both hoping they would be called next so they wouldn’t be stuck working with Richard.

Layana’s name was pulled next and she chose Kate as her assistant, which left Patricia to work with Richard. Talk about déjà vu! Remember last week? These two didn’t work well together, at all and Richard was sent home. Uh oh! Poor Patricia.

The designers explained their ideas to their assistants and everybody got busy but it didn’t take long to see there was trouble brewing. Patricia didn’t trust Richard so she started changing her design. And Stanley’s OCD was shining through as he nitpicked Tu and told him everything had to be perfect.

Then Tim came in to check on everyone’s progress. He reminded Michelle that Nina didn’t want a tee shirt and pants but Michelle didn’t listen. And when Patricia mentioned using a cape in her look, Tim cautioned her against it.

After Tim left, there was more bickering from Stanley because Tu wasn’t doing everything the way he wanted it. Patricia gave Richard a sewing lesson and Michelle questioned whether she was doing enough for this week’s challenge.

Later, the models came in for a fitting. Patricia decided to let go of her original artwork design and help Richard sew.

The next day, before heading to the workroom, the guys dished who they thought was going home this week. They said Patricia because her look was too old. But little did they know the girls were doing some dishing of their own. They said Daniel was going home because of his yellow fabric and that it reminded them of Easter and laying eggs. Who was right? We shall see…

In the workroom, the designers scrambled to get their looks finished on time. With just 10 minutes to go before runway, Stanley was still barking orders at Tu. Daniel and Samantha were finished with his garment so Samantha rushed to help Patricia finishing sewing some leather fringe elements on her dress. Then it was time to hit the runway.

After the show, the judges critiqued the designs. Nina explained that Patricia’s look would not work for Jordana because it didn’t have a flattering shape and it looked unfinished. Jordana agreed.

Heidi said Stanley’s garment looked fresh, elegant, and expensive. Nina agreed saying it was fabulous and highly editorial.

When it came to Daniel’s yellow jacket and shorts ensemble, Heidi said it looked too Victoria Secret. Zac agreed saying the look didn’t work. Nina said she could see the garment on a rack but while the shoulders were exciting, the garment looked too Easter and FTD Florist. Ouch!

Nina said Layana’s design was sexy, bold, and amazing. Heidi agreed saying it would photograph well.

But when Nina came to Michelle’s tee shirt and pants, she told her it wasn’t strong enough for an editorial and reminded her that she had asked them not to design a tee shirt and pants. Jordana agreed saying she loved the look for day- to-day wear but not for an editorial shoot.

After the judges spent some time talking amongst themselves, Stanley was declared the challenge winner. Layana and Daniel were also safe, which left Patricia and Michelle in the bottom two.

Heidi told Michelle her look wasn’t special or surprising enough and again reminded her that she wasn’t supposed to create a tee shirt and pants look. Then she told Patricia her garment wasn’t made well and looked sloppy and unfinished.

So who went home? Nobody! That’s right, nobody.

Heidi told Patricia she was in. Then she told Michelle they were about to send her home but had decided to give her a do or die moment. What’s up with that? Heidi told Michelle they would tell her more about it in a little bit and dismissed her from the runway.

Will the judges keep Michelle or send her home? Stay tuned next week to see what happens!
