Fantasy - usually relates to imaginary subject matter (some I would say fall under young adult) - includes paranormal/fairy tale/werewolves/vampires
Young Adult - adolescent life experience (family, friends, significant others, high school), some content includes more serious subject matter
New Adult - Contemporary post adolescent life, usually 17/18 to post college aged characters, dealing with adult life experience including more serious subjects about growing up, either not detailed or not explicitly detailed in Young Adult. This is a "new genre" and I have been reading tons of books in this genre lately.
Chick Lit - This is usually about relationships in general and is a more realistic version of what happens in the real world and does not always end up with the fairy tale ending of Romance but that does not mean that it is not the ending that character deserves, sometimes includes more detailed adult relationships
Romance - a love story usually focusing on the relationship of two characters, usually includes more detailed adult relationships
Thrillers - (I usually read legal thrillers the most) - this is a more suspenseful Mystery
Mystery - usually this is a police procedural - solving crimes (murder)
